waiting for the big one
Growing up, my dad would take me fishing at my grandfather's lake in Nuangola. My first rod was an unconventional one at best. If you can recall, back then there was a rocket fishing pole commercial on TV and my parents bought it for me. Needless to say, I don’t think I caught any fish with it. When I got older, I started using my grandfather’s and dad’s fishing poles. I learned how to bait a hook with lures and worms. However, the real lesson you learn growing up through fishing is patience.
My dad always told me the key to fishing is waiting for the slightest movement on the tip of your pole to jerk the hook into the fish's mouth and reel it in. At first, I didn’t have much patience while fishing. After 30 minutes of not catching anything, I would give up and go skip rocks which then scared all the fish away, but my dad didn’t care, he just wanted me to have fun. Once I got older and fished more adventurously, I learned patience is a virtue.
Fishing is like marketing and keeping a cool head. When you land one client you look for the next one just like in fishing. Brands and companies may not want to partner with you, but you got to give them some bait. Show them what you can do for their company. Listen to them and always have patience with them because marketing is all about finding the next big thing and adding accomplishments.
