Finding the right internship

No one truly prepares you for the burnout you will face when you enter college.

Most College students have to hold a job throughout their studies to maintain financial stability. While balancing everything that comes with typical college student pressures on and off campus.

This is similar to what I had to face throughout my education. As I finished my junior year, I looked back and thought how lucky I was to have a job throughout these past pandemic years.

On the downside, behind the scenes; I was facing the feeling of burnout with balancing my education, work career, and personal life. Of course, with COVID-19 creeping around each corner. The stress was overwhelming and I was burned out before even reaching my senior year.

To-do lists flooded my brain; class schedules, extracurriculars, housing, abroad-trip, and now I needed to find an internship to complete my degree. I struggled to find an internship that would fit my interests and the timeframe I was working with.

Right when the semester was starting to kick off, I was recommended to apply with DragonTree Media Group. Their company was one of the top internships at my University. I was unsure of how it would go, but I knew that the job was right up my alley. Remote work piqued my interest, and although completely unfamiliar with this idea, somehow I knew it would be a great experience.

Looking back, applying was the best decision.

Going to school is a full-time job in and of itself. As evidenced throughout the pandemic, working remotely allows for flexibility in your life. While I have only been with the company for a couple of short months, I have the ability to help create my work schedule around everything else going on. Deadlines are important, and should be met; and being able to meet them in any environment you need is beneficial for doing the best job possible.

My senior year so far has been jam packed more than any other year and at this point, I would normally be burnt out and ready for a break. The difference this year is that while I am still ready for break as I have exciting plans, I am not so burnt out that I have no motivation to finish out the semester, and I know this internship plays a big role in that feeling.

This past summer, I made the decision to spend winter break in Europe!!

Through DragonTree Media Group, I am able to take my work with me wherever I go. As a college student living away from home, working is essential; and through this internship, I am afforded the opportunity to experience something I might not otherwise have been able to while still maintaining a job. Most students over break go home and start working full-time hours before they have to come back for another semester. College is the time to experience traveling as it gets harder to do after you graduate, but not everyone is able to afford it. I am lucky in the sense that I can travel Europe representing DragonTree Media Group and take on a slightly different role in the company while away.

Everyone experiences burnout in their life, and there isn’t always a way to prevent it or get around it. Yet, having that flexibility in just one part of your life can make a huge difference in your mental health. DragonTree Media Group has made that difference.
